A Recipe Book Update? Not Really Because…

What I am dreaming of eating…but can’t because of my stupid tummy!

Yesterday was a super good day!

Not only did I have spinach and carrot in my chicken soup for lunch!! (if you have no idea what I am talking about then you need to read about my choice of diet to rid myself of IBS and candida), but I was contacted out of the blue by a company about some work…just when I was beginning to feel very miserable about the whole blog thing!

Overall, however, the week has been rather pants if I am honest!

In response to my last blog post I was delighted to have some feedback from a reader that it was helpful to hear the real truth behind starting such a restricted diet.  It hadn’t really occurred to me before that this could be helpful, but it is true that whenever I visit other ‘healthy living’ blogs it all seems to be wonderful and delicious…and it all looks super easy.  Although I like to present a positive story on my blog, life isn’t always like that as we all know…

The reality is rather different.

If you read my last blog post you will know that I was struggling with making yoghurt…an integral part of the SCD diet!  I have also had to make clarified butter, sauerkraut and other fermented vegetables…along with boiling chickens for hours on end to make chicken stock and soup (integral to the initial start of the diet when healing the gut and reducing inflammation is the number one priority).  The latter is a big challenge for someone who was vegetarian for well over 10 years and is still rather squeamish about picking a dead animal apart!

Of course, having kids means that I can’t just focus on me!  I have been feeling starving most of the time and having to maintain ‘normality’ for the kids (when I actually feel like staying well away from all food I cannot currently eat) what has been a real challenge.  But hey…challenges make us stronger eh?!

So what changes have I seen so far?

Well, since starting the very plain introduction diet, my tummy has become flat and most impressive of all (sorry to my male readers) is the total lack of PMS symptoms this month! Incredible since I have been REALLY suffering for the last year or so…popping all kinds of magical remedies in the hopes of making my hormones behave (which I incidentally stopped a couple of weeks ago when I cut the sugar and grains).

My eczema, however, has seriously flared up on my hands.  I have read that this can be due to what is called a ‘die off’ reaction…where the undesirable bacteria and yeast is being killed and is releasing toxins into the body.  I have also been very tired and on Monday I had a huge deal of brain fog…also generally associated with ‘die off’.  All good!  The baddies are on the way out!!

Needless to say, I have not been working on recipes for my book this week!!!  That will have to wait until my diet becomes less restricted so that I am not tempted to try things that I shouldn’t be eating.

The good news for you is that the book will therefore contain even more healthy recipes some of which will be free from grains and starches (which may be bothering a number of your tummies without you knowing it) along with refined sugar…which we all know we should cut down on.  It isn’t too much of a diversion from what I had planned…it just might take a little bit longer!

I promise you a recipe next week…a special Easter treat ;).

One final thing…just thought I would mention it.  There is a blogging award scheme that you might like to nominate me for if you like my blog??  I don’t really go in for these things but I thought I would tell you on the off chance that you do! You can nominate me here.

How has your week been?  I hope it has been a good one!

    • Thanks Vicky! It is still raging but I guess that is just everything coming out. Also have some other rather odd things going on but my tummy is happy so far so hopefully all the other things are just the bugs dying! Will be picking your brains about staying away and eating over the coming week…that is my next challenge!

  5. You got my vote when I was filling out the form yesterday my lovely 🙂 I know it’s been rough but it’ll be so worth it. I’m convinced that there is an intrinsic link between sugar and ‘women’s problems’. My own PCOS symptoms became pretty non existent when I cut refined sugar out. Food for thought eh. Hope the weekend is kind to you hon xxx

    • Thanks Renee! Still feeling rather spaced out at times and odd but hopefully things will get better soon. At least my tummy has been happy with all the things that I have introduced so far!

  6. You have my sympathy as I am currently doing an anti candida diet. After three weeks I feel a lot better and have more energy and less sugar cravings. It isn’t easy but it is worth it to feel better 🙂
