Easter has been rather stressful. While the weather has been beautiful and the children have been off school I’ve felt as though my brain might frazzle and burn out.
A huge number of factors are contributing to this.
I’ve reached a cross roads in the flour business…there are so many ways to go; so much advise to take on board that I feel like a rabbit in headlights. I’m stuck, immobilised by fear and overwhelmed with choice.
To add to that, my website has been playing up after trying to add a ‘proper’ shop to it (now deleted) and I have a major issue to deal with relating to Amazon.
A few months ago I was encouraging people to buy direct from me. I shared with you how little profit I got when selling through Amazon, and you, my wonderful loyal customers, started buying direct from me. However, I’ve now got a significant problem that has arisen from this…
Sales on Amazon have dropped so much that I am now in danger of either having to pay a significant fee to Amazon to get them to send the flour back to me, or I pay a significant fee to get Amazon to dispose of the flour, which will pain me even more because I HATE waste.
The problem arises from the fact that the factory printed the wrong best before date on the packets.
The Amazon stock (which went direct from the factory to Amazon) is dated 27 July 2017.
In reality the flour has a best before date of 27 January 2018 but I have no ability to change this now that the stock is with Amazon.
This gives me around one month (allowing people a 2 month shelf life) to sell 176 bags of self raising flour and 110 bags of plain flour. Given that I’ve had 4 orders so far this month I don’t see myself hitting those kind of targets any time soon!
It leaves me with no choice but to shut my website shop for small orders in order to help clear the Amazon stock. If that doesn’t work then I’m afraid I will have to shut my website shop entirely until such a time as the stock is cleared and I can stop selling on Amazon.
Because of the high cost of selling through Amazon I’m afraid I have no ability to reduce the cost there without being out of pocket.
If you wish to place a trade order (24 bags or more) I will still always be selling direct. Please just get in touch for details and price.
Of course, my stockists will continue to sell the flour too, so check out my stockists page if you want to buy the flour directly from a shop.
I hope to jump this hurdle and race onwards and upwards but right now I’m feeling dazzled and frazzled by all of it so if I’m quiet on social media it’s because I’m trying to protect my brain!
