Back in May I wrote about a new experiment I was conducting on myself with doTerra lifelong vitality supplements & goats milk kefir.
Fed up with increasing anxiety, insomnia, eczema, bloating and random reactions to food I started taking goats milk kefir and nutritional supplements.
I thought it was time for an update!
My bloating and insomnia have not improved but my anxiety, eczema and reactions to food have improved.
Since starting with 1 teaspoon of goats milk kefir (it’s a strong probiotic that you need to introduce slowly) I now take 2 tablespoons per day. I haven’t been able to increase above that amount without being more bloated.
Once my course of Chuckling Goat goats milk kefir was finished I chose to make my own. It is easy to do once you have bought some grains (I was given mine but you can buy them from Happy Kombucha). It is less strong in flavour and not fizzy (which the kids and I were not fond of).
I have noticed a definite improvement in bowel movements. In addition, the test I am using to track the amount of fibre loving bacteria in my gut has shown a slight increase.
LoveGut measures the amount of fibre loving bacteria through a monthly stool sample analysis. They have various programmes ranging from just a sample analysis to a personalised fibre supplement and tracking. When I have more of my own results I will give another update on this.
Initially when I started the regime I noticed an improvement in my sleep and anxiety.
After the first couple of weeks my sleep went back to being very disturbed but I have remained less anxious. This, however, could be down to me meditating more and trying the emotional freedom technique (EFT) with Marie Houlden.
When my doTerra lifelong vitality supplements ran out I decided to stop taking them to see what the reaction was.
DoTerra lifelong vitality supplements consist of:
- Powerful cellular longevity blend of baicalin, boswellic acids, silymarin, resveratrol, curcumin and proanthocyanidins
- Potent levels of metabolic factors of cellular energy and performance: coenzyme Q10, quercetin, acetyl-l-carnitine, alpha-lipoic acid and ginkgo biloba
- Essential oil blend of clove, frankincense, thyme, cumin, wild orange, peppermint, ginger, caraway and german chamomile
- Proprietary omega fatty acid blend of marine and plant based oils
- Balanced blend of bioavailable vitamins and patented chelated minerals for maximum absorption
- Additional carotenoid antioxidant protection from lutein, lycopene, natural alpha and beta carotene, astaxanthin and zeaxanthin
- A tummy tamer blend of herbs along with digestive enzymes
I was hoping that I wouldn’t notice a difference and I could attribute the huge improvement to my skin to the milk kefir. The doTerra supplements are expensive while the milk kefir is cheap to make.
Alas, within days of stopping the supplements, the eczema on my hands had returned with vengeance. I had been eating small amounts of cows milk dairy with no reaction, but that stopped when I stopped taking the supplements.
I am therefore pretty certain that the vast improvements to my skin, and reactions to food, is down to these supplements.
This week I am going to start the supplements again alongside the goats milk kefir, but I am going to take the full dose (I was taking a half dose) for a month. During that time I hope to increase the amount of goats milk kefir that I take.
I will, of course, report back in a couple of months time.
